Each year I use the secular holiday, Halloween, to dress up and conjure my next evolution. Lately, I have been embodying my witchy nature. In years past, I dressed as a medieval spice vendor as I studied herbal medicine. I dressed as a seafaring port vendor when we bought our first business. I dressed as Mother Nature as I was building my spiritual relationship with Earth. I dressed as the Goddess Medusa as I was healing my relationship with my body.
I used this opportunity to dress as the embodiment of my future self. This way I could be seen as my manifestation fulfilled. It helped me explore what it would feel like to be, that person. And it gave me the opportunity to tell people who I am. Who I am becoming.
I encourage you to consider this practice as we approach the Samhain/Halloween season. This spiritual practice can be incorporated easily with or without sharing the private reason you may have chosen your costume. Throughout the day or night, proclaiming "I am a woodland creature" will bring you closer to your desires.
I found this easiest to practice when my child was younger. No one blinked an eye at the Mom in costume with her child. But as I age, I think less about what people think of me. Last year I embodied the Autumn Witch. The Autumn Witch for me, was me embracing my aging body, embracing my relationship with death, embracing the wisdom I have gathered from many decades of living. The Autumn Witch is a middle-aged woman, with adult children, who cares for her community, who people come to for comfort and advice. The Autumn Witch walks in the woods and holds circles by a bonfire for her community.
ts not uncommon for me to wear a costume for a few years in a row. It takes a few years to fully embody these parts of me. This year I think I will wear my Autumn Witch costume for more than Halloween. She will likely make some appearances at the grocery store and running errands. No need to hide her away.
